Off on holiday!

I’m just in the process of finishing the packing, then it’s just my toenails to paint and some lunch to eat and we’re off to the airport! We’re gone for TWO WHOLE WEEKS (not really long enough) and I’ll be doing my best to not be on the internet that whole time - cos there are things to see and do people!

See ya when I get back!

Queenstown recap

The weekend before last we were down in Queenstown. You may remember this from my Wednesday post when I may have been a tad excited.

The reason for the visit was the in-laws (not technical, no ring on this finger…just sayin’) were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, as well as both of their 65th birthdays that have happened over recent months.

It was a fantastic weekend of food, wine and adventures, and awesome to see Queenstown in Winter after my last visit their in April 2011. I’m gutted it didn’t snow while I was there (I’ve never been somewhere while it was snowing) but we’re going to go back next year. One day!

6k. Gulp.

Let’s get one thing straight: I am not a runner.

Since joining the gym in January, I’ve created a bond with the treadmill. I mean, I can bust out a mean brisk walk. The elliptical and I are a more recent love affair - I love the sweat I get on that one. The stationery bike - I like that too (but actual bikes are much better).

But running….yeah nah.

Lady flu

Late last week the bf got sick. Not just a cold mind you, he got man flu. That’s not just a New Zealand thing, right? So yeah. He had Friday and Monday off work, and spent the weekend sleeping in, then lying on the couch watching movies, in between which he would feast on toast smothered in jam and peanut butter.

This one time in Tauranga

The weekend before last, the bf took me to Tauranga for the weekend. His work comp’d him two nights at a hotel down that way, and it had to be used within three weeks. Awesome excuse to get out of the city and amazing to spend some quality time with my favourite person.

Here is the weekend in photos.

Stuck in traffic. No biggie.

Wednesday write-up #15

It’s a public holiday here in New Zealand - Anzac Day - commemorating all those that fought and died for our country. I feel a bit guilty as I didn’t go to the dawn service this year, especially as the bf has never been. We will definitely go next year.

  • It is inevitable that all bars and restaurants that I once enjoyed will eventually suck. Why is this??
  • There is no logic to weight loss. One week of not gyming or watching my diet and I lose the most weight ever?!
  • A mid week day off is a brilliant idea.

When good bars go bad

I am a pretty loyal customer. If I find out about a new place, I like to try it out and if I like it, I return somewhat regularly - and I tell my friends.

Likewise when things go bad, I tell my friends - but not before giving the establishment a chance to redeem themselves. If they don’t, I do my best to avoid them in the future, wherever possible.

Joining the latter camp today is Fort Street Union, before what I would regard my favourite bar.

Let the rant commence.

Things for 27

Tomorrow is my birthday. I’m turning 27. I’m a bit nervous. Not about the fact I’m having a birthday, or the age (officially late twenties, oooh), it’s just meh.For the last few years my birthday has inevitably meant tears. Tears that people forgot (hello first birthday in Auckland), tears of not being sure what to do, or tears of it all going wrong. I’m one of those people that get a bit depressed on my birthday.

Not this year (hopefully). Although in writing this I was in a weird mood last night. Sorry bf.

Wednesday write-up #14

Yikes, it’s Wednesday! This one totally snuck up on me. Let’s get at it.

  • It’s true when people say the weight might not come off, but the centimetres will! Yayballs!
  • Titanic is way more stressful than I remembered as a 12 year old. Saw the 3D version with some mates last week, and yikes it was tense.
  • Pasta bake really is a fantastic comfort food.

Sometimes, cut the potatoes square

One of my favourite things to do when stressed out is chop, slice and dice. If I get home in a grump, the bf will often hand me a knife. Which, in hindsight, potentially not the best idea - “Oh, you’re grumpy, make me some dinner with this here knife”. Pow.

Never fear, my frustration is only ever taken out on the food.
